November 2008 Tottenham Hotspur 2 - 2 Liverpool FC The comeback spirit from Liverpool stroke again. Spurs were leading 2-0 at half time thanks to Darren Bent's double, the striker notching up his tally to 8 Premier goals this season with 2 fine goals. But Javier Mascherano smash in a low drive past a crowded penalty box for a late hope and captain fantastic Steven Gerrard bundled in a rebound after Torres's effort was saved. Liverpool survived yet another day. Champions League Group Stages - Liverpool FC 1 - 1 Dynamo Kiev ![]() [source - news.bbc.co.uk] Yossi Benayoun, returning from a long term injury, stroke a beautiful goal from 30 yards as he left Shovkovskyy stunned. But substitute Ognjen Vukojevic came out from the bench to net an undeserving equaliser despite Liverpool's dominance of the whole match, steering a deep cross into the net. Liverpool would have won the match, but for the first time they were short of firepower with both Robbie Keane and Fernando Torres rested. Despite the lost, we are still stepping closer and closer to qualifying for the knockout stages. A big away match against Celtic and a win would guarantee qualification. Liverpool FC 2 - 0 West Bromwich Albion West Brom found themselves down to 10 men early in the game with Abdoulaye Meite receiving two yellow cards to get his marching orders. Liverpool took advantage of it and the partnership of Robbie Keane and Fernando Torres showed a glimpse of hope. Keane set up Torres with a delicious cross for the Spaniard to volley it beyond ex-Red Scott Carson and Torres later puts the Irishman through to apply the finish for the win. Carling Cup 4th Round - Liverpool FC 1 - 1 Tottenham Hotspur AET Liverpool won 4-2 on Penalties Liverpool face Tottenham Hotspur for the 2nd time this month and both side hopes to improve from their draw last time. Liverpool sided a 2nd team string when they continued to blood their youngsters and give some chances for other fringe players to impress. One player was Dirk Kuyt, who was occasionally on the bench with Keane and Torres on the front often and Kuyt showed that he can score with a goal in the 14th minute, Plessis picking him out for the Dutchman to slam the shot into the net. But Spurs' fullback Gilberto took advantage of some misunderstanding. Degen made an awful back pass which didn't get near to Reina and the full back raised through to score an easy goal. The same thing happened as Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur couldn't find the winner and the match went into extra-time, where it was the same outcome. David N'gog though got his shot cleared off the line by King in the dying seconds. The tensions raised in penalties. Dirk Kuyt, Nemeth, Benayoun all scored, as Lucas found his penalty shot saved by Cesar Sanchez. But Spurs converted only 2 with Jenas and Modric spotted on only for Bent and Zokora to miss theirs. Substitute Xabi Alonso slotted his penalty as Liverpool ran out as winners and through to the quarter-finals, when they would face with underdogs Burnley. Burnley produced a fine display as they knocked out Manchester United in the 4th round. Bolton Wanderers 0 - 0 Liverpool FC Liverpool and Bolton played on a stalement which resulted in Arsenal going on top at the expense of the Reds. Bolton constantly frustrated Ryan Thompson's side and defended valiantly, while Liverpool failed to finish off the home side. Liverpool FC 1 - 0 Fulham Fulham adopted the same way as Bolton did against Liverpool last week but Steven Gerrard is having none of it, as the captain slams a 2nd half free kick to seal the win. Both Torres and Kuyt were left to deny for their missed chances but as Riera was fouled 25 yards away from the goal, Gerrard stepped up and arrowed a missle into the top corner. Champions League Stage - Celtic FC 0 - 5 Liverpool FC ![]() [source - www.skysports.com] Liverpool comfortable stroll into the knockout stage with an impressive victory over the Scottish champions. Fernando Torres expertly finishes off Boruc when a Gerrard pass puts him through, leaving the Spaniard to put the Reds up front in the 8th minute. Gerrard himself grabbed a goal with a low shot which took a heavy deflection off Gary Caldwell to wrong footed Boruc completely. Dirk Kuyt extended the margin to 3 after a mistake from the Celtic, punishing them with a fine strike. Hungarian striker Nemeth entered the frame in the 2nd half and grabbed an impressive brace in 5 minutes as Liverpool cruised to 5 goals to nil. Celtic's misery piled on when captain McManus was adjusted to brought down Torres when the striker is cleaned through. Qualification is ensured but now after Dynamo Kiev's 3-2 win over Barcelona, we have a chance to go top in our last fixture, against Barcelona at Anfield. Liverpool FC 3 - 0 West Ham United Liverpool go back to the top of the Premiership again with a convincing win over West Ham. Fernando Torres found the net twice early in the first half, with Dirk Kuyt adding a goal for himself late in the 2nd half with a powerful header to secure a fabulous win. Arsenal's slip up in their match with Chelsea means that we go back on top at the end of November. |

Early December 2008 Carling Cup Quarter-Finals - Burnley 2 - 5 Liverpool FC A big surprise in the last round from underdogs Burnley. They spurred a remarkable performance as they knocked out Manchester United, and their award is the Red Devils arch rivals, Liverpool. As Ryan Thompson had promised, a young side was fielded in the team and the partnership of David N'Gog and Krisztian Nemeth sparkled off as both strikers scored a goal. But Burnley produced a supreme comeback with ex-Manchester United player Chris Eagles spinning a free kick into the top corner and later stroke a low effort into the net. But Liverpool fought the Burnley revival back and another goal from Nemeth and the substitutions of Steven Gerrard and Robbie Keane coming off the bench to score denied Burnley another upset. A big tie as Chelsea were drew against Liverpool, with West Ham facing off with Arsenal in the other Semi-final tie. Blackburn Rovers 0 - 3 Liverpool FC ![]() [source - news.bbc.co.uk] Liverpool continued their hot form with a 3-0 victory over Blackburn. Fernando Torres bundled a free kick home in the 28th minute and Steven Gerrard doubled the advantage with a penalty early in the 2nd half. Javier Mascherano added the third in the 90th minute, lurking past two defenders and sidefooting Riera's low cross into the net. Champions League Group Stages - Liverpool FC 2 - 1 Barcelona The fight for 1st spot. Barcelona needed to avoid a defeat in order to secure top spot, while Liverpool must beat the Spanish giants to get the top spot. Their early 1-2 defeat at Nou Camp was still in their mind and revenge was in the Red's mind. It was Barcelona with the perfect start. Xavi is released by a beautiful Hleb pass and the Barcelona captain expertly chipped the ball over Reina. But Liverpool fought back valiantly and Ryan Babel equalises with a thunderous finish after some good work in midfield. Barcelona was gifted with chances by the Liverpool team but Pepe Reina was on top form as he produced strings of majestic saves to keep the scoreline balance. But Liverpool soon finally took the lead, and the winner. Mascherano pounded a shot from the edge of the penalty box which left Victor Valdes with no chance and secured Liverpool the top spot. |

Both teams had faced with each other in the 2005 and the 2007 CL final, with Liverpool winning it in 2005 and AC Milan later getting the revenge in 2007. But the tie in 2009 will see the two sides facing off with each other again. In the other draw, Arsenal were handed a tricky tie with Bayern Munich, while Chelsea host FC Porto and Manchester United hosting Standard Liege. The full draw are the following..... AS Roma v Real Madrid AC Milan v Liverpool FC Barcelona v PSV Eindhoven Galatasaray SK v Lyon Arsenal v Bayern Munich Juventus v Zenit St.Petersburg Standard Liege v Manchester United Chelsea v FC Porto (p.s AC Milan were supposed to be in the UEFA Cup because they finished 5th last season but because I only activated the English leagues AC Milan somehow got into the Champions League Der Beitrag wurde von nicharit bearbeitet: 07.12.2008 - 12:57 |

Late December 2008 Liverpool FC 2 - 0 Hull City Dirk Kuyt smashes home a volley after Arbeloa founded him lurking in the penalty box, hitting the shot beyond Myhill's reach. Robbie Keane made it two with a dipping header from yet another Arbeloa cross. Hull City lacked creativity for the whole match and created only one chance, Marlon King's header from a Hull corner going wide. Arsenal 0 - 3 Liverpool FC ![]() [source - www.skyspors.com] Arsenal must win this game in order to regain top spot in the Premier League and stop Liverpool from continuing their hot run at the top. But their hope of doing that vanishes when Albert Riera curled the opener in the 14th minute. Arsenal lacked consistency and Liverpool always catch them on the break, only for Almunia to make some brilliant save. Samir Nasri came close at the start of the 2nd half, his gasping shot from 30 yards leaving Reina to tip the ball over the crossbar as Arsenal improved. Robin van Persie later hit the post and Eboue missed two great chances. But Arsenal conceded a penalty when Djourou brought down Torres when the Spaniard was through and he received a straight red. Alonso converted the penalty to the delight of the away end, with 60,000 other Arsenal fans in disbelief. Fernando Torres wraps the match late on, latching onto a long ball and finishing it pass Almunia for his 10th of the season as Liverpool secured one of the most important victory, and go 6 points cleared off the table. Liverpool FC 5 - 1 Bolton Wanderers Bolton adopted the same style as they did a month ago, when they managed to hold Liverpool out for a draw but the Reds is having none of it, as they turn a stalement into a goal feast. Robbie Keane, Xabi Alonso and Fernando Torres was on target in the 1st half, before an Elmander goal brought hope for Bolton. But an own goal by Gary Cahill ended the hope and substitute Nemeth finished the game off with a well work goal. Newcastle United 2 - 2 Liverpool FC Liverpool's hope of finishing off December on a high note suffered a little setback as they only managed a point at St James Park. Ex-Red Michael Owen puts the Magpies into the lead just before the interval and 5 minutes into the 2nd half doubled the lead. But young substitute David N'Gog remarkably rescued a point as two last gasp goals from the young Frenchman left Liverpool still unbeaten since late September. Arsenal also managed a draw in their match against Portsmouth, meaning they we enter 2009 6 points cleared off the table and confirmed as Winter Champions. |

January 2009 FA Cup 3rd Round – Aldershot Town 0 – 3 Liverpool FC ![]() [source - cache.daylife.com] Ryan Thompson can finally rest some of his key players, with superstars such as Gerrard, Torres and Alonso not even making the trip. However, Mark Noble, Ryan Babel and David N’Gog all scored to cruise past League Two club Aldershot Town and into the 4th Round, where they would be facing with Preston North End Portsmouth Announced Capture of Charles Itandje ![]() [source - www.thesun.co.uk] Portsmouth has announced the signing of Liverpool’s back-up goalkeeper Charles Itandje for a reported fee of 1.8m. Charles Itandje has saw appearances limited after Reina’s superb form between the sticks, and with Diego also in the goalkeeping ranks, it’s unlikely that Itandje would get a game. Carling Cup Semi-Final First Leg – Liverpool FC 2 – 2 Chelsea Ricardo Carvalho headed in a late header to give Chelsea hope ahead of their 2nd leg in Stamford Bridge as a highly contested match ended 2-2 at Anfield. With the Premier League possibly given to Liverpool, Chelsea now saw the Carling Cup as their great opportunity of winning a silverware this season. Salomon Kalou finished off a great Chelsea move to put the Londoners up front after 13 minutes, after Lampard and Deco’s breathtaking movement gave Kalou too much space to score. It was a great goal which broke the Liverpool confidence, and throughout the rest of the 1st half Liverpool had to rely on Carragher, Skrtel, Agger and Reina to keep the scoreline at 0-1 approaching the interval. Just after the 2nd half, Robbie Keane remarkably stroke an equaliser, hitting a pin-point shot into the bottom corner before Fernando Torres finally puts Liverpool into the lead in the 71st minute. However, when it looked as if Liverpool would be holding on to a vital victory, Ricardo Carvalho headed in a Lampard corner unmarked, and Chelsea lived to fight another day. Stoke City 1 – 3 Liverpool FC David N’Gog continued his rich vein of goal in the league when he opened the scoring, which later saw Dirk Kuyt and Steven Gerrard extending the lead to 3. Dave Kitson’s thumping header puts one back for Stoke, but could not get anymore than that. Hyypia Ends Long Stay with Move to Scottish Giants Celtic ![]() [source - www.4thegame.com] Sami Hyypia has made an emotional leave to Scottish giants Celtic after more than 10 years of stay in a Liverpool shirt. Sami Hyypia has found opportunities limited after Daniel Agger and Jamie Carragher’s phenomenal partnership in the defence, and not to exclude Martin Skrtel and youth-academy product Clive Gregory, who both were good back-ups. Hyypia will be missed by the Liverpool fans, and Liverpool FC would like to wish the best for the future Liverpool 3 – 0 Everton Liverpool swoop aside their arch-rivals Everton in style, with Riera and Alonso scoring in the first half to make it 2-0. Substitute David N’Gog scored yet another goal, finishing off a great move after Steve Gerrard squares the ball to the young Frenchman to seal a comfortable derby victory. Carling Cup Semi-Final 2nd Leg – Chelsea 1 – 0 Liverpool FC (Chelsea through 3-2 on aggregate) Chelsea made home advantage count when Michael Ballack’s free kick seals a crucial victory over Liverpool and sets up the final in Wembley with West Ham United, who had beaten Arsenal in the semi-finals. Alonso gave a needless free kick 20 yards away, and Ballack curls a lovely goal into the top corner, ending Liverpool’s chance of lifting the Carling Cup. FA Cup 4th Round – Liverpool FC 2 – 0 Preston North End Liverpool’s 2nd cup tie in 2 weeks saw a young Liverpool side beating Preston North End with goals from Krisztian Nemeth and Ryan Babel seals the victory. But it was a nightmare draw for Liverpool. Out of 15 possible teams, they drew Chelsea in the FA Cup. Liverpool Announced Jankulovski loan deal ![]() [source - www.photobucket.com] Liverpool has taken AC Milan’s Jankulovski on loan for the rest of the season. Jankulovski has failed to get regular appearances on the pitch and will be spending the 2nd half of the season with high flyers Liverpool. Jankulovski though will not be able to participate in the Champions League. He is cup-tied after representing AC Milan earlier. Wigan Athletic 0 – 4 Liverpool FC Mark Noble headed in his first league goal in a Liverpool shirt in the 14th minute to give Liverpool a dream start, before 3 goals in the 2nd half from Kuyt, N’Gog and Keane puts Liverpool 12 points cleared after their nearest rivals Arsenal slipped up. Liverpool FC 3 – 2 Chelsea Chelsea knew that it is a must win game if anyone was to overtake Liverpool this season, but Fernando Torres kept Liverpool’s dream of their first Premiership title in 19 years with a late late winner in a thrilling match. It was Kalou, the same man who scored against Liverpool earlier at Anfield, who opened the scoring with a header from Joe Cole’s deep cross. But Fernando Torres showed his sublime quality when he completely rinsed Alex in the penalty box, before smacking the ball past Petr Cech. Gerrard puts the Reds into the lead in the 44th minute, his powerful effort took a deflection off Ashley Cole and into the net. Chelsea though again showed their deadly skill from set-piece, and Liverpool were punished when they were penalised for a poor tackle outside the box. Ballack looked to be taking it, but instead lays it off for the Brazilian Alex, who simply smashes in a piledriver. Chelsea thought that they would get a valuable point against the high flyers, but in closing stages, Malouda gave away possession easily and David N'Gog picked it up to set up Fernando Torres, who slides in the dramatic winner. ![]() Entering February, we are 14 points cleared and on course of capturing the Premiership. But now we have to look forward to the Champions League tie with AC Milan. Note: I felt that I have to finish off this diary |

February 2009 Portsmouth 0 - 2 Liverpool FC 2nd half goals from Xabi Alonso and Steven Gerrard warmed Liverpool up for their mid-week cup tie, which seals victory over Portsmouth. Former Reds David James was on hot-form when he made lots of vital saves, including a world-class one when Riera's half-volley was somehow tipped over. Thompson decided to introduce Irishman Robbie Keane, and it was him who sets up the two winning goals. Keane tees up Gerrard to smack in a low shot, and later flicks a corner for Alonso to score with a simple touch. FA Cup Last Sixteen - Liverpool FC 1 - 1 Chelsea 18 years old Clive Gregory scored his first ever goal for Liverpool but the youngster's goal was canceled out by Anelka's 74th minute equaliser as both teams will have to play again in the replay. Ryan Thompson was not in a mood, when his key players of Robbie Keane, Yossi Benayoun, Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso, Pepe Reina and Steve Gerrard all head to international duty in the middle of the week. Ryan Thompson was left to field a rather young side, with Brazilian keeper Diego given a nod between the post. Chelsea only lost John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho, and they were attacking Liverpool at all fronts, but Liverpool put themselves into the lead in their first chance. Jankulovski's corner was met by 18 years old Clive Gregory, who headed in his first ever goal. It was a moment to cherish for the youngster, who was tipped with a bright future. Liverpool could have won the match, if David N'Gog hadn't shot wide from 10 yards. This is because later Deco's long range effort wasn't gather properly by Diego, and Anelka pounced onto the loose ball and his simpliest of touch gave Chelsea another chance. FA Cup Last 16 Replay - Chelsea 1 - 0 Liverpool FC ![]() [source - www.skysports.com] Michael Ballack haunted Liverpool again when his late strike knocked Liverpool out of the FA Cup, the 2nd time had Liverpool been eliminated by Chelsea from a cup competition this season. Both Chelsea and Liverpool suffered an early injury blow, when both Didier Drogba and Steve Gerrard limped out of the field in the first half. Drogba suffered a minor injury and Scolari's decision of taking off the Ivorian was not to risk him picking up an injury, although Gerrard remains a major doubt for their Champions League tie with AC Milan. Extra time and penalties loomed for both sides, after chances by chances goes begging. Until Lampard's shot was half-cleared, and Ballack drove in a cracking shot for the win into the quarter-finals. Liverpool are out of the two domestic trophy. Liverpool FC 1 - 0 Manchester City Relegation battlers Manchester City suffered a narrow defeat to high flyers Liverpool as Manchester City dominated. Robinho hits the woodwork twice in 5 minutes in the first half, and Martin Petrov was denied twice by the superb Pepe Reina. Fernando Torres took advantage of the wasteful Manchester City side, sliding home a Benayoun cross. Champions League Last 16 First Leg - AC Milan 2 - 2 Liverpool FC ![]() [source - liverpoolfcclips.blogspot.com] Andriy Shevchenko's 72nd minute penalty still kept AC Milan's Champions League campaign alive, although Liverpool will be the happier of the two as both teams battled out in the 2-2 draw at San Siro. Liverpool were boosted by the news of Steven Gerrard passing a late fitness test, and Gerrard played a key role in Liverpool's first goal. 2 minutes into the game, Gerrard made a breathe taking run before squaring the ball to Fernando Torres, and the Spaniard made no mistake to put the Reds up. AC Milan though refused to give up and Marco Borriello drilled home the equaliser after an amazing counter-attack move. AC Milan broke through and Kaka sets up Borriello, who showed great composure before beating Reina with a low shot. Albert Riera's diving header gave Liverpool the 2-1 lead in the 52nd minute, but the Spaniard brought down Flippo Inzaghi in the box. Steps up Andriy Shevchenko, who sends Pepe Reina the wrong way to keep this tie alive. Middlesbrough 0 -2 Liverpool FC Dirk Kuyt and Fernando Torres solidifies Liverpool's spot at the top of the table. Kuyt scored 16 minutes into the game, before the Spaniard hitman scores his 15th goal of the season with a magnificent overhead kick. |

Daniel Agger Receives Player of the Month Award ![]() [source - www.liverpooldailypost.com] Daniel Agger has won the player of the month award, having being instrumental at the defence of the Liverpool side, keeping clean sheets in all of their 3 fixtures. This is the first time the Dane has been honoured, and Agger hopes that his form at the back would hand Liverpool the first Premier League trophy in 19 years. Liverpool are currently leading with an unsailable 16 points lead and are on course of the title. |

March 2009 Liverpool FC 1 - 4 Sunderland Fernando Torres picked up Gerrard's clever pass before putting Liverpool up in under 3 minutes. But Daryl Murphy silienced the 40,000 Liverpool fans at Anfield when he headed unmark from a corner, before putting the Black Cats into the lead with a deflected strike. Murphy soon completed his hat-trick just before half time, a low precise shot into the bottom corner. Paul McShane completed the rout over the league leaders, making a mazing run through the Liverpool defence before playing a simple one-two and finishing it off. Liverpool's last league defeat was in September, where they were defeated by arch-rivals Everton, and will be disappointed to have lost to Sunderland in a huge margin. Champions League Last 16 2nd Leg - Liverpool FC 4 - 2 AC Milan (Liverpool through 6-4 on aggregate) ![]() [source - www.liverpoolbanter.co.uk] Liverpool secured an emphatic victory over AC Milan at Anfield to advance to the quarter-finals of this year's Champions League. It was AC Milan though who opened the scoring, Marco Borriello headed in a pin-point Ambrosini cross into the net as AC Milan takes the lead. Liverpool though showed their quality and instantly got an equaliser, Xabi Alonso's long ball splits the defence open, and Fernando Torres raced through on goal before squaring up Ryan Babel to level the score. Alonso played yet another part in a goal as Liverpool quickly overturns the scoreline, the Spaniard picks out Torres again from a long way out and El Nino got himself on the scoreline with a sublime finish. Babel made it 3-1 when he cuts into the box from the left wing, before unleashing a thunderbolt into the net. Albert Riera completed the domination when Torres picks out the winger in the box to score the 4th. AC Milan though managed a late goal through Pato but it would be Liverpool who advances into the net round at the expense of the Italian giants. |

Late March 2009 Manchester United 3 - 0 Liverpool FC ![]() [source - www.telegraph.co.uk] Following their success in the mid-week Champions League tie, Liverpool suffered a 2nd consecutive league defeat, this time to their rivals Manchester United, 3-0. The Red Devil's first chance was a goal, when Rooney tees up Ronaldo to smash in an early opener. Wayne Rooney's strike in the 26th minute doubled the scoreline at Old Trafford, before Ronaldo's 2nd half penalty after Paul Scholes was brought down seals the much needed victory over Liverpool. Liverpool FC 1 - 3 Aston Villa Liverpool's 3rd defeat in a row was against European chaser Aston Villa. Gareth Barry finished off a great Aston Villa move in the 34th minute, and January signing Darren Fletcher's double made it 3-0 only just before half time. Although Liverpool improved in the 2nd half and Robbie Keane managed a close range finish to put one back for the Reds, it was not enough as Liverpool slip up again at such a crucial stage. ![]() 3 defeats in a row in March is definitely bad news. We can't afford to slip up anymore or else Chelsea and West Ham would catch us up. Der Beitrag wurde von nicharit bearbeitet: 09.03.2009 - 17:30 |
